Realism and Romanticism essays Despite the Realist movements attempt to portray art in a more realistic true form from the Romantic periods often exaggerated emotional depiction of art. The Realist movement may have depicted art from a more true to life point of view than Romantic artists, but in fact was heavily influenced by the artistic motives and styles of the Romantic period. The art period known as Romanticism began in the late 18th early 19th centuries people were tired with the norms of society. Artists of the era were preceded by the Renaissance thinkers and artists who had a very empirical and analytical approach (Galitz, 2004). Romanticism was a revolt against the straightforward heavily analyzed thinking of the Renaissance and the ideas that human actions are guides by inevitable laws of nature. Romantic artist encouraged imagination, exploration of individual thinking, and all forms of inspiration. Artists were not bound by any one particular style being encouraged to explore feeling and surrounding inspirations, often portraying a glorification of nature while incorporating a chivalric and nationalist feel (Galitz, 2004). Romantics create a clear good versus evil portrayal by painting with a clear vision of what is evil and what is good. During the French Revolution Romantics showed their strong resistance to the rational thinking of the enlightened period. Using nostalgia and exotic influences to glorify heroes, romantics were able use exaggerated depictions of nature to portray the hero as overcoming insurmountable odds against not only the enemy but also Mother Nature simultaneously. Is it Worth It to Compete for an Ivy League Education Its undeniable that  a degree from an Ivy League college holds a lot of prestige.  Ã‚  In fact,  I  have personally experienced the benefit of an Ivy League degree in my career, as Ive set out first as a lawyer and then as a resume writer and college essay advisor.   B.A. Yale 91 is enough to convince some people to hire me.   Many employers prefer to hire people with one of those magic schools on their resumes. I have a secret to share:  Ã‚  I sometimes wish I had gone to Oberlin where the students might be a bit more hippie and  down to earth, i.e., more like me.   But I will never regret having a Yale degree on my resume.   It helped me get into another prestigious school (NYU Law 98) and has gained the respect of several employers and clients. A recent article by Eve Tahmincioglu on msnbc.com, An Ivy  League degree no surefire path to success,  explores whether an Ivy League degree really makes a difference when it comes to how well a candidate will do in a job.   The article concludes that hard work, not the college name on your diploma, leads to career success.   Nevertheless, people with Ivy League degrees have significantly higher incomes than their non-Ivy counterparts: â€Å"The typical Ivy League bachelor’s graduate earns about 27 percent more early in their career, and about 47 percent more by the time he or she is about 40, than the typical bachelor’s graduate from all U.S. schools,† according to compensation website PayScale.com. I wonder:   Do employers like to hire someone from the right school simply because of the prestige, or do they beleive they can rely on  the pre-screening that the Ivies (and other top schools) do on every admittee?   It seems to me that theres a  really good chance that someone who made it into an Ivy  League school is among the  best and the brightest.  Ã‚  Thats not to say that a huge number of the best and the brightest and the most hard working did not go to Ivy League universities, either because they did not get in or because they chose less pricey options. Its understandable that many students prefer to attend Ivies, regardless of whether this education is  essential  to  career success.   Ivy League colleges come with  a guaranteed caliber to the student body and community, to the professors, and to the education.   And of course, the degree opens up many doors with ease. The competition to get in to Ivy League and other top schools, as reported by  Ms. Tahmincioglu in her MSNBC article, is fiercer than ever:   According to the Harvard Crimson, the school accepted a record-low 6.9 percent of applicants this year even though the number of applications actually went up 5 percent - topping 30,000 for the first time in the school’s history. The long and the short of it is that if you want to have an easier path to some of the most prestigious jobs in the country, a Yale, Harvard or Princeton degree will go far.   You still need to do well once youre there, and you still need to work hard once youre in the work force.   But the big names on the resume dont hurt a bit.   And in my book, thats enough to make it worthwhile to shoot for the best. As for my part, I do not agree with this thought. Some children are too young to learn a foreign language in their own age. It is not necessary to have a child to learn English at a very young age. Personal Worldview Inventory Essay

My personal beliefs have formed me over the course of my lifetime by many different influences. Many people have made important impact in my life that have changed my beliefs in society and my life. The major two values that help determine my worldview are God and Ethics they are the ways that help me shape my beliefs, and life decisions. I feel the strongest aspect of my worldview is my tremendous sense of spirituality and the relationship I have with God. All of these beliefs help me every day with my decisions. The moral values I have learned are from many different influences through my lifetime. Strong Catholic influences have been the good foundation to be closer to God. I have learned to live a life of compassion, service and teaching. Ethical choices that I have made in my life have not been the most popular but they are the ones I live with. One of my beliefs is that not all humans respond or act the same way. It all depends on their world view, background, morals, and personalities. My main goal in life is to help others ever since I was a child. I was raised in a very religious catholic home. I was the middle child of five children in a Hispanic family. I grew up in a small Hispanic community near Mexico. As we were growing up we were exposed to people living in poverty and we were expected to help them with what we had. Even though we were not a rich family we would give we would make the effort to donate food and the necessary items to the needy families. We would donate dinners on Christmas Eve to the most unfortunate families with small children for the holiday. This tradition continues to be in my family and now my children are experiencing it. My mother and father  have always taught us values and morals. I grew up with the belief to help out people in need. While I was growing up I wanted to be a Doctor or a nurse because my main objective was to help people in need. Now that I have accomplished my dream I am able to help people who are in need by caring for them. What is prime reality? In religious pluralism defines Prime reality generally refers to the belief in two or more religious worldviews as being valid or acceptable. It is a multiple path that leads to the same God. Early as the seventeenth century the main concept was the religious working together. Even though Muslims and Christians believe in helping the most need both have different ideas and precept of God (Tripp, 2000). In Scientism the main concept of Prime reality is main goal is to extend to broaden scientific methods, to the life of humans in society and political issues. In post modernism the Prime reality the main concept is there main philosophy that states, â€Å"There is no absolute truth does not exist†. This leads to relativism which means that what is right for one group is not necessarly true for everyone in today’s society. What is the nature of the worlds around us? Nature can be interpreted as patterns of relationships. This is encouraged by the Buddhist belief that there is a interconnectedness of all things. This belief does not deny the reality of things that are typically perceived as being â€Å"in the objectively real world†, but it denies that these things have any ontologically isolated essence (Tripp, 2000). The basic idea is that there are no substantial or truly independent â€Å"essences† of things because the essence of any given thing consists in its interconnections with every other thing. The â€Å"objectively real† world cannot exists without us, not  because minds â€Å"create the world† but because the quality of our experiences and the things in the world that we typically call â€Å"objectively real† are ontologically interdependent. The ontological essence of each thing consists in its relations to all other things, thus nothing exists unless everything it is related to exists as well. External reality is the way God created the earth to work in uniformity and the earth was made out of nothing (Sire, 2009). In a scientism view it was the art of science that started the universe. Chemical reactions within the world is what started life in earth. What is a human being? It is a creature created by God. We are extraordinary machines full of mystery images of God and we were made to serve God. â€Å"Human beings are created in the image of God and thus possess personality, self-transcendence, intelligence, morality, gregariousness and creativity† (Sire, 2009). In postmodernism and scientism human beings are created by matter and there is no foundation of human beings from the beginning or why we exist. What happens to a person at death? Death is viewed as a gate to meet God and live an eternal life with him. Whatever happens at death is always a mystery. In much religious death once everyone dies they will face judgment by God (Noebel,2006). Death is not the end of life; it is the beginning of eternal existence. Postmodernism has no moral absolutes but rather places responsibility into the hands of the individual. Each absolute belongs into the hands of the individual and therefore each position on after afterlife is relative to an individual’s meaning of truth. In scientism death is viewed as the end of life and that a person is not passed to a better life. They also have the belief that near death experiences do not exist. Their only conclusion is that there s no scientific evidence that near death experiences are actual afterlife experiences. Why is it possible to know anything at all? Human beings are the images of God. God gave us the capacity to know and learn from his teachings. In postmodernism the truth about reality itself is forever hidden and no explanation. In scientism human reason & the methods of science the universe is responsible for knowing everything. Humans were  created this way(Tripp,2009). How do we know what is right or wrong? We determine what is right or wrong based on our teachings from the bible and from the word of God. As we are growing up our parents are the ones who teach us the values and morals. I have been thinking of the ideas which I would choose to make the world a better place to live. One would be to get rid of racism; without racism, the world would certainly be the better place. Donation basic essentials, volunteering time to share concerns and encouraging embrace toward people with disadvantage backgrounds are other ways to build a better world. The last but not least is ending wars. Besides wasting money and human power wars destroyed cultural and moral values in the most drastic ways. Being treated fairly and respectfully no matter of race, age, religion and disabilities is one of the most ideal wish for every one of us. These are always the ideal wishes from of all of us, that we carry deep in our hearts, and have been wishing them to become true since the beginning of time. In fact, those ideas seem to be part of human nature, but wars, on the other hand also seem to be part of human nature. Many solutions were suggested, but it seemed very little of them would be applied in the reality. Perhaps the idea called â€Å"Humanity Education† could get to the root of the problems; and that would be One Thing I Would Strongly Wish to Implement to Make the World a Better Place. Recently, I listened to a speaker at an event sponsored by the National Society of Leadership and Success program. The presenter was Blake Mycoskie, who established the TOMS shoes brand. He shared with the audience about how his current business was started and how it is doing. At first no one could imagine how simple his goals were. Back in 2006, he and his commission group visited Argentina trying to help poor people, especially kids to go to school. The image of kids going to school with bare feet or with worn out shoes immediately changed his views about the real lives out there. Then, to accomplish his mission to help people, he went back to America and started his non-profit business that is TOMS (Tomorrow) now, Shoes for Tomorrow. The goal of TOMS over time is still â€Å"You buy a pair today, we give a pair away tomorrow,† and his speech that night blew the audience’s minds with his way of making a better world. In Made, it is heard to discern if Made actually represents a tragic hero. Because there is no recognition of wrong on Medias part, there is also no catharsis. The audience does not feel empathy with Made because she does not feel empathy herself. Instead, we begin to feel sorry for Jason because Made has taken his life and children. There Is no Chicago: no learning, or pause for life has taken place, the audience is left unsatisfied and questioning what the moral point of_ Made _ was. Secondly, Euripides does not write _ Made _ with Aristotle rule of using surprise as a means of pity and terror. Lines 787 through 788 clearly depict what Is on Medias mind: For those children he had from me he will never see alive again. In these lines Made Is reveling her plan, leaving the audience with no suspense. The audience does not fear hat Made will do next, because we know already by her decree. Because the audience knows what will happen, the rest of the play becomes a bore. There Is no thrill of watching and engaging because the scheme of events has been told too early. If a reversal of events took place, then the audience would enjoy the play more, but because the events follow Just as we were told they would, there Is no element of surprise, or enjoyment for the audience. Although Made Is a revolutionary play that souses on the female mind and heart rather than the male gender,let cannot be Identified as a tragedy. Instead of feeling sympathy for Made, we view her as a pathetic character that Is non-remorseful. As well as the lack of a true tragic hero, a catharsis, and the element of surprise, the play does not offer any bigger spiritual lesson. Unlike Antigen, In which the chorus Illustrates the lessons of wisdom, reverence to the gods, and the arrogance of pride, Made offers no resolution which leaves the audience unsatisfied and non-moved.
